Founder and CEO of Watt Footprint, Paul Mahon, speaks about his inspiration and plans for the future of the business.
What inspired me to start my company?
I founded Watt Footprint driven by the belief that energy efficiency should be accessible to every business, not just large corporations. There was a significant gap in the market with businesses who wanted to manage their energy costs and carbon footprint but lacked the necessary tools and expertise. Our mission is to simplify energy management, empowering businesses to reduce energy usage, lower costs, and contribute positively towards climate targets.
What is my core product/service offering, and what gap in the market am I trying to address?
At Watt Footprint, we offer an all-in-one energy management solution that goes beyond traditional consultancy. Rather than simply recommending energy-saving measures, we ensure these solutions are implemented, measured, and continuously optimized. Our energy management app utilises AI and machine learning, providing businesses with real-time insights to make data-driven decisions that reduce energy usage and costs. We directly address the market gap of businesses struggling to convert energy audits into actionable, long-term savings.
Is there a particular sustainability-related issue my business is trying to solve?
Yes, the primary sustainability-related issue we tackle at Watt Footprint is inefficient energy use and associated carbon emissions. Our goal is to help businesses achieve energy savings by using a data-driven approach to energy efficiency. Our mantra is – you can’t manage what you can’t measure – and we give businesses visibility of their energy usage so they can make an informed decision on how to reduce it. All backed by our team of energy experts guiding them through the various solutions and grants available.
What motivated me to apply to the Accelerate Green programme?
I was motivated to join the Bord na Móna Accelerate Green Programme to refine our strategic direction and leverage the invaluable networking and mentorship opportunities available. These resources have proven instrumental in helping Watt Footprint navigate growth challenges in the sustainability sector, enabling connections with like-minded businesses and sustainability leaders.
How important is professional networking for me as I grow my business?
Professional networking is essential for Watt Footprint. Collaboration and partnerships with government bodies, industry leaders, and sustainability organisations are vital to achieving our sustainability goals. Networking allows us to accelerate our role in driving the transition towards a greener economy.
What’s my long-term vision for the company?
Watt Footprint is on a mission to disrupt the global energy industry through continuous innovation, international expansion, and cutting-edge technology. Ultimately, our goal is to significantly contribute to global sustainability targets, creating meaningful impacts both within Ireland and globally.
