Ikea Dublin has announced it is to introduce the living wage for all of its co-workers from April 1st.
413 co-workers will receive a pay rise to the living wage set at a rate of €11.50 per hour in a move that is part of a wider transformation of basic co-worker conditions as Ikea looks to ensure that co-workers have the right level of pay, the right contract and an appropriate schedule.
As part of this transformation, Ikea is also implementing a proportionate pay increase for 129 team leaders – representing an additional investment from the business into its workforce – as well as committing to giving all customer-facing co-workers one weekend off in four.
Marsha Smith, store manager, Ikea Dublin, said: “April 1st marks yet another significant milestone for Ikea in Ireland as we introduce the living wage for all co-workers. At Ikea we believe in investing in our co-workers and this latest initiative is a further example of our continued commitment to co-worker development and conditions. We know that introducing the living wage will have real and lasting benefits for our co-workers.”
Smith continued: “Implementing the living wage is not only the right thing to do for our co-workers, but it also makes commercial sense. It is vital to the ongoing success and sustainability of the business that we retain co-workers as well as attract the top talent in the local marketplace. Furthermore, we believe that a team with good compensation and excellent working conditions will continue to provide our customers with a great shopping experience.”
The Ikea Group has 330 stores in 28 countries worldwide. The Ikea Group had 771 million visits during 2015 and 1.9 billion people visited Ikea’s website.
