Launched in 2018 with Enterprise Ireland, the Elevation Award recognises fast-growing Irish companies with substantial potential for global expansion. Revive Active is a health supplement company based in Galway. The business is a finalist in this category. Its CEO, Paul McGreevy, sits down with Business & Finance to discuss the company’s nomination
What motivated you to start the company?
The formation of Revive Active was fueled by a vision to deliver an unmet need identified by medical professionals with a range of scientifically formulated health supplements that really work. The focus from day 1 was to create premium health supplements using scientifically backed ingredients that support overall wellness, energy, and physical and mental agility. Our point of difference lies in our comprehensive, all-in-one formulas that combine the highest-quality, scientifically-backed ingredients like CoQ10, L-arginine, and Vitamin D to support multiple aspects of health—energy, cardiovascular function, immune support, and overall vitality.
Unlike typical supplements that target single needs, Revive Active’s portfolio offers a premium blend that addresses multiple health benefits in one single sachet, appealing to consumers seeking convenience and effectiveness. Additionally, the powder format offers enhanced bioavailability when dissolved in water, ensuring the body efficiently absorbs the nutrients with no added stimulants, added colours, caffeine, additives, or preservatives often found in other products!
What does it feel like to put your vision into practice?
It’s fantastic to see the success we’re having in Ireland and to regularly hear consumers, pharmacists and medical professionals endorsing our product. It’s also very exciting to see our sales expanding internationally, in particular in the UK where we expect to do just over €2.6m sales in 2024! To build on the success we’re having we have invested in building the brand and are recruiting more and more people to help us deliver our growth. Whilst we are growing rapidly, we do not forget our humble beginnings and have an obsession with our own culture whilst delivering the best product possible to our customers and partners.
How does it feel to be an Elevation Award finalist?
We are absolutely delighted. In some ways, it crystallises the progress we’ve made over the last 10 years and forces us to reflect on all the hard, work, initiative and support that has got us to this point and gives great recognition to the incredible people that have made this possible. At the same time, it feels like we’re on the foothills of our ambition as we look at internationalisation and new product development.
What, in your opinion, specifically led to this nomination?
Our growth is due to the focus on the health and wellbeing of our customers, and an unrelenting obsession to educate on the essential needs of nutrition. This has led to sustained growth especially due to the amazing loyalty of our customers for which we are eternally grateful. This has given us the foundation to expand internationally and develop the same leading market share in new markets as we have in Ireland with our retail partners, ensuring mutual success.
Start-ups are traditionally difficult to get off the ground – how would you advise overcoming the many obstacles that can emerge?
Make sure you have a differentiated product offering. That you have a sustainable business plan. Recruit the competencies that you need in the future, not just what you need today. Realise that you must invest to succeed. Ensure you have a robust strategy that is aspirational, but achievable with a clear implementation plan. But most of all be flexible, because no matter how good the plan, things change! Also, ensure you have a great team, and nurture a positive culture. Enterprise Ireland has been a key partner for us, and we would advise any budding business to meet with them early in their journey.
Enterprise Ireland prioritises start-ups – how has support from EI impacted the global vision of your company?
EI have been fantastic from our very beginning, throughout our journey and still ongoing. A source of education, support, funding, introductions, and positive challenge. We had a vision, they believed in us and helped us deliver it. This support continues with two Irish-based manufacturing sites focussed on continual improvement of our ESG, and key introductions internationally. As business-critical topics come up, it is regular rhetoric to say how can EI help. We in return continue to promote the virtues of EI to all people we meet in business and cannot express our gratitude enough.
