Jennifer Hughes is the Chief Commercial Officer at Clanwilliam Group. The Dublin-headquartered firm is a global healthcare, technology and services business whose products and services are used in healthcare settings worldwide.

What was your first job?

Straight after college I worked in my dad’s commercial vehicle parts company for about a year. There I was able to gain a hands-on understanding of all aspects of business.

What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?

Undertaking the MBA from the Smurfit Business School was a huge achievement and I’m very proud of it. But it was certainly a challenge in the sense that I pursued it while balancing a demanding job and a young family. And, on top of it all, I had our third child at the end of my final year – adding another dimension to my final exams!

In three words or less, how would you define success?

Achieving your dreams.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Getting out of your comfort zone can feel scary but it’s a necessary part of growth.

What’s your motto?

Never stop learning.

How do you motivate yourself and your staff?

Firstly, I think it’s important to have a passion for what you do and to feel connected to your organisation’s purpose.

Clanwilliam’s products and services play an essential role in healthcare settings worldwide. I try to bring that back up to the surface whenever people get bogged down by the day-to-day of business activities.

Understanding my team’s personal and career goals is also key. When you tap into someone’s personal objectives you can align both the individual’s goals with the organisations to help deliver greater success all-round.

How do you relax?

There are a few ways I like to relax. I enjoy meeting friends, going for a walk or reading a good book. My favourite downtime is spent with my family, maybe curled up on the couch watching a movie together.

What are your aspirations for the future of the business?

For an innovative health-tech company like Clanwilliam Group, I feel the potential is only going to grow in the coming months and years.

There is so much opportunity now when it comes to digital technology and health, from telehealth, AI and wearables to voice-assisted technology, and I’d like to see Clanwilliam Group at the forefront of many of these exciting new innovations so we can keep fulfilling our mission statement to improve healthcare for everyone.
