BDO in Ireland, a leading provider of Audit, Tax, Advisory, and Consultancy services, has announced the appointment of Áine McInerney, Eoghan Daly, Natalie Byrne, Chris Fogarty, and Cian O’Sullivan as new Partners at BDO.

The addition of these new partners significantly enhances BDO’s expertise across the key areas of tax, audit, and cybersecurity. Their combined knowledge and experience will bolster BDO’s capabilities in delivering comprehensive advisory services, meeting the diverse needs of clients, and addressing the growing complexities in today’s business landscape. This strategic expansion underscores BDO’s commitment to providing top-tier professional services and solidifying its position as a leader in the industry.

The appointments are part of BDO in Ireland’s strategic plan to expand its market presence and meet the increasing demand for expert advisory services across diverse sectors in Ireland.

Áine McInerney will commence a new role as Partner in the Audit Department at BDO Limerick. With over 20 years of experience in audit, financial reporting, and business advisory services, Áine has worked with a broad portfolio of clients ranging from large multinationals to local indigenous businesses. Her expertise spans various sectors, including construction, manufacturing, and distribution. Áine holds an Honour’s Degree in Business with German majoring in Accounting and Finance from the University of Limerick and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ireland (FCA).

Eoghan Daly is also appointed as Partner and serves as BDO in Ireland’s Head of Cybersecurity. Eoghan brings extensive experience in management consulting and forensic and cybersecurity advisory to the role. He has experience working with organisations across a diverse array of industries including the mining, education, pensions, manufacturing, healthcare, government, and not-for-profit sectors. He holds an honours degree in Botany from University College Dublin and a master’s degree in Environmental Economics and Policy from Imperial College London.

Natalie Byrne becomes a Tax Partner at BDO Limerick. Natalie joined BDO in 2007 and has since amassed significant experience in tax compliance and advisory for both corporates and individuals. She manages Corporation Tax compliance for multinational clients across various industries and has a strong track record in dealing with the Revenue Commissioners on audits and compliance interventions. Natalie holds a first-class Honour’s Degree in Business Studies from the University of Limerick and is a member of both Chartered Accountants Ireland and the Irish Taxation Institute.

Chris Fogarty has been appointed as Partner in the Audit and Advisory Department at BDO Limerick. Since joining BDO in 2011, Chris has provided audit, financial reporting, and advisory services to clients in sectors such as healthcare, construction, and hospitality. His advisory experience includes internal audits, risk management, business reviews, and grant audits. Chris holds an Honour’s Degree in Construction Economics and Management, a Higher Diploma in Professional Accounting, and a Certificate in Sustainability Strategy Risk and Reporting from Chartered Accountants Ireland.

Cian O’Sullivan is appointed as Partner in the Private Client Tax Services team and co-leads the BDO Sports Advisory Unit. Cian has extensive experience advising individuals, families, and professionals on tax and financial matters, including transaction tax planning and intergenerational wealth management. His unique expertise in sports advisory has benefited numerous sportspeople, clubs, and high-net-worth entertainers. Cian is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor, and co-chairs BDO’s Global Private Client Sports Committee.

Brian Lee, CEO & Registrar,
The Health Insurance Authority 

The Health Insurance Authority (HIA) has announced the appointment of Brian Lee as CEO/ Registrar.

Welcoming the appointment, Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly said: “Brian brings a range of experience in regulatory and operational roles in the health and social care sector to the role of CEO/Registrar in the Health Insurance Authority. Brian’s considerable leadership experience will be pivotal to the Health Insurance Authority, to build on the great work that the Authority has done in partnership with the Department of Health and other key stakeholders and to lead strategic development during a time of change in the sector.”

Patricia Byron, Chairperson of the Authority, said: “The Health Insurance Authority is delighted to have someone with Brian’s depth of experience at the helm. We look forward to working with him and his executive team on furthering important policy issues in the health insurance industry and preparing our 3-year strategy for 2025- 2027”

Brian Lee, newly appointed CEO of the HIA said: “I am delighted to be joining the HIA at an exciting time for the private health insurance industry and the Irish health system. More consumers than ever hold health insurance policies, and that provides us with an opportunity to engage with them with information on their rights, benefits and all aspects of their health insurance policy. I look forward to engaging with consumers and working with colleagues in the Department of Health, the sector, other agencies and the wider stakeholder community.”

Lee joins the HIA after over 3 years with the HSE where he was Head of Operations for the COVID-19 Test and Trace Programme. Prior to this Lee was Director of Quality Assurance and Regulation with Tusla – the Child and Family Agency for over 6 years. His previous roles include Director of Operations with Health Care Informed, National Clinical Care Programme Manager in the HSE, Project Manager and Inspector with HIQA, and United Drug.

Lee has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of Gheel Autism Services and served as a member of CORU Council – the statutory regulator for the Health and Social Care professionals.

He holds an MBA from TU Dublin and a number of qualifications from University College Dublin including a Degree in Biochemistry, and Graduate Diplomas in Healthcare Risk Management and Quality, Professional Regulation and Organisational Renewal and Transformation.


Chris Stagg, Consumer Director,
Vodafone

Vodafone Ireland has announced today the appointment of Chris Stagg as Consumer Director.
Stagg will lead the consumer business unit in Vodafone Ireland, managing retail operations, and driving sustainable growth for mobile and fixed services. He will craft long-term consumer strategy, brand positioning, and innovative campaigns as well as overseeing customer lifecycle management, product development, channel strategy, and digital transformation efforts.
Stagg brings with him a wealth of experience, with an emphasis on accelerating growth, culture, talent, diversity and inclusion, and change management. Previously, Stagg worked as the General Manager for Europe at The Clorox Company, where he played a pivotal role in driving regional growth. Prior to that, he held various leadership positions at Diageo, Britvic and InBev.

Viatel Technology Group has announced the appointment of James Finglas as General Manager of its Digital Services Division. Formerly the Managing Director of MJ Flood Technology, Finglas brings over 26 years of experience of excellence in cybersecurity, cloud migration, Microsoft telephony, and modern work solutions. This strategic move comes on the heels of Viatel’s acquisition of MJ Flood Technology, a deal that has now received all requisite regulatory approvals.
