Jonathan Moore, Partner in Planning and Environmental practice, and Johan Verbruggen, Partner and Head of its Medical Negligence practice,
Fieldfisher
Fieldfisher Ireland LLP has appointed two new partners. Jonathan Moore has been appointed to Partner in its Planning and Environmental practice while Johan Verbruggen has been appointed as a Partner and Head of its Medical Negligence practice.
The appointments represent an expansion of the partnership in Fieldfisher Ireland to 15 partners and follow the recent appointment of Ciara Burke as Partner and Head of its Data Protection and Privacy in late 2023.
Jonathan Moore’s appointment as Partner in Fieldfisher Ireland’s leading Planning and Environmental practice signifies a substantial commitment to its long-term regulatory clients in this complex and growing area. This comes after the recent establishment of an Environmental High Court division, which has dealt with approximately 300 judicial reviews since 2020, many of which Jonathan’s team has been involved in. The Planning and Environmental team was recently ranked Tier 1 in the Legal 500 rankings. The EU Green Deal is also bringing about a swathe of new environmental regulations – not least of which require companies to report ESG impacts starting from early 2024. Jonathan heads up the multi-disciplinary ESG Services Team which will assist clients with these new requirements.
Leading the medical negligence practice for Fieldfisher Ireland, Johan Verbruggen will play a crucial role in steering the firm’s delivery of exceptional service to clients seeking justice in cases of medical wrongdoing. He will also collaborate closely with Fieldfisher’s international team, working with counterparts in Fieldfisher UK’s renowned medical negligence practice, headed up by Iona Meeres-Young. Verbruggen, a Galway-native, ran a branch office of a very successful medical negligence practice in the west of Ireland. Since qualifying in 2016, he has represented injured patients and families of those who have died in hospital, in a number of high-profile cases and inquests.
Commenting on the appointments, Fieldfisher Ireland Managing Partner JP McDowell said: “The expansion of Fieldfisher’s expertise aligns seamlessly with the firm’s extensive institutional knowledge and years of experience in the healthcare, planning and environmental spaces. We’re delighted to welcome Johan and Jonathan to the Partnership and I have no doubt that both will be great assets to our firm in their new roles.”
Jonathan Moore, commenting on his appointment, said: “I have enjoyed being part of Fieldfisher’s exceptional Planning & Environmental team for the last number of years and I look forward to delivering strong results for clients over the coming years in my new role, in both planning and environmental law, and the wider ESG area.”
Johan Verbruggen, speaking on his appointment, said: “I welcome the opportunity to join a leading international firm and collaborate with my new colleagues across Ireland and internationally. As somebody who has been personally affected by medical negligence, I understand the difficulties faced by injured patients and their families, and I look forward to helping clients across Ireland navigate the complexities of these cases in my new role”.
