This week sees new and notable appointments at HCS, The Doyle Collection, and Bank of Ireland.

Lesley Whelan, Head of Risk & Compliance
HCS

The Irish IT managed services HCS has appointed Lesley Whelan as its Head of Risk & Compliance, as it launches its new Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) practice.

In her new role, she will be responsible for leading HCS’s new GRC practice development. She will strengthen the company’s internal assurance and governance framework. She will support ISO 27001 and help customers respond to increasing requirements around cyber risks, regulatory compliance, data protection, operational resilience, and AI governance.

Whelan brings over 20 years of experience in governance, risk, and compliance within the IT industry. She previously held senior roles, including Head of Risk and Compliance at HLB, Compliance Manager at eir business (formerly eir evo), and Head of IAM Cyber Services at Irish Life.

Upon her appointment, Lesley Whelan commented, “I work closely with leadership, technical teams and customers to turn compliance requirements into practical, workable processes that support trust, resilience and growth. GRC is now central to winning business, maintaining trust and supporting growth. I look forward to working with clients to enhance their operations while helping tackle several critical challenges.”

Katie Farrell, Chief Commercial Officer
The Doyle Collection

The family-owned hotel group, The Doyle Collection, has appointed its new Chief Commercial Officer, Katie Farrell. The hotel group operates in Ireland, the UK, and the US.

Before this appointment, Farrell worked with the hotel group for over 11 years as Director of Sales and Marketing at the Westbury, the Group’s flagship hotel, located in Dublin.

In her previous role, she played a pivotal role in shaping the hotel’s market positioning and drove sustained commercial performance. Additionally, she also elevated the Group’s profile as one of Europe’s most celebrated luxury properties.

In her new role, Farrell will lead the marketing, sales, and commercial strategy across The Doyle Collection’s portfolio of eight hotels. She will also focus on strengthening the Group’s presence, enhancing brand performance and driving long-term commercial success.

“After more than 11 years as Director of Sales and Marketing at The Westbury, I am delighted to take on the role of Chief Commercial Officer for The Doyle Collection.” Katie Farrell said. “I have grown and learned so much within the Group since joining in 2014, and it has been a privilege to contribute to our commercial direction and sustained performance. James Magill, Chief People Officer
Bank of Ireland

James Magill has been appointed as Bank of Ireland’s new Chief People Officer. Before that, Magill held a number of senior leadership roles at Vodafone and Accenture across New Zealand, Ireland, the UK, and Europe. He was mainly responsible for organisational transformation programmes, HR digitalisation, talent and leadership development, employee experience initiatives, and organisational effectiveness strategies.

Speaking on the appointment, Myles O’Grady, chief executive of Bank of Ireland, said, “We are delighted to welcome James Magill as Chief People Officer. James will play a leading role in shaping the people and culture agenda that enables the delivery of our strategy across the Group.
