Kieran Daly, General Manager and Co-Founder of HealthBeacon, has spent his career turning digital health innovation into global commercial success, from wearable sensor technology to smart medication management solutions used around the world.

What was your first job?

This sounds like a cliche, but it was picking potatoes at age 12 – different times!

After that, I spent a few years working as a gardener. I think it’s important for people to get exposure to all kinds of work when they are younger, as ultimately it all feeds into their experience and work ethic.

What are your main priorities and goals in your current role?

My main priority at the moment is to continue to grow our business; we have a few exciting expansion opportunities underway.

HealthBeacon is building on our foundational adherence solutions and evolving into a full-spectrum digital health company

What pushed you to pursue a career in this field?

I’ve always been drawn to building and problem-solving.

During my time at Shimmer Research, I saw firsthand how that kind of technology could be applied in healthcare and research in a practical way.

It naturally led me towards wanting to apply technology in areas where it can have a clear, meaningful impact on people’s lives.

How do you motivate yourself and your team?

Keeping the patient at the forefront of everything we do.

Knowing that we play even a small part in making life easier for people managing long-term conditions is hugely motivating for the whole team.

In one sentence, how would you define success?

For me, success is about building something meaningful, getting through the challenges that come with it, and knowing that the work is having a truly positive impact on people.

How do you relax?

I try to switch off properly outside of work, I’ve found that keeping one foot in work and another at home doesn’t really serve either.

I help coach my kids’ sports and play tennis whenever I can during the week.

What is your favourite (non-business) book?

Bill Bryson, A Short History of Nearly Everything.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.

For me, it really sums up the importance of both focus and team.

How do you handle adversity?

By simply taking a step back and focus on what’s in front of you.

What are the aspirations for the future of the business?

We’ve had a great two years since being acquired by Hamilton Beach, first stabilising the business, then achieving profitability.

Now we’re focused on growth and expansion, scaling our injection care management system.

Ultimately, our aspiration is to continue to deepen our impact in home healthcare and broaden our offerings to support across a wider range of needs.
