By Business & Finance Corporate executives, researchers and representatives of the health department gathered today at the Westin Hotel in Dublin to share their views on healthy ageing.
The Dublin event was part of TEDxBinnenhof organised by the Dutch government where over 40 Dutch Embassies across the globe joined to talk about ‘Global Challenges|Dutch Solutions’. In Ireland the subject of ‘healthy ageing’ was discussed.
According to expects, by 2025 one-third of Europe’s population will be older than 60, with a particularly rapid increase in the number of people over 80 years of age. Both Ireland and the Netherlands are at the forefront of some of the most innovative thinking in the area of ‘healthy ageing’. The subject is also seen as one of the 12 key priorities in Europe’s research and innovation program Horizon 2020 worth over €80bn.
Four Dutch speakers made presentations within the TEDxformat as part of the event. They were:
- Floris Foijer, principal investigator, ERIBA who discussed ‘New therapies to battle ageing’;
- Martine Bal, commercial director, Ninthway who’s presentation was entitled ‘Take care with The Care Watch!’;
- Sybo Dijkstra, senior director, Philips Research, who presented on ‘Bringing Healthcare Home’; and
- Henk ten Cate Hoedemaker, a surgeon at UMCG who’s presentation was ‘Training surgery is no game, or is it?’.
