What was your first job?

I started working in Arnotts in December 2005 at the age of 15, in the stockroom over the Christmas period for two weeks. I went back the following summer and then worked there for a further seven years through to the end of my college years.

What are your main priorities and goals in your current role?

My key focus is achieving sustainable growth, strong governance and building a high-performing team that clients genuinely trust, establishing long-term relationships rather than one-off transactions.

What pushed you to pursue a career in this field?

My initial entry was intended to be a year out after completing my degree in UCD, and here I am 14 years later, still on my year out. I’ve become fascinated by how financial decisions shape people’s lives.

How do you motivate yourself and your team?

My wife and kids motivate me more than they might know. I try to motivate the team by making sure they’re clear on the responsibilities they have to the business, to our clients who trust us with their finances, and to the wider DNG brand.

In one sentence, how would you define success?

Success for me is building a happy, motivated team and earning the trust of clients who come back to you whenever they need guidance.

How do you relax?

Time with Louise and my boys. They put up with a lot with the way I work, but they know how to bring me straight back down to earth!

What is your favourite (non-business) book?

Truthfully, I don’t read much. I prefer to sit down at the piano and lose myself in the music whenever the house is empty, or put on my headphones and listen to a podcast.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Be yourself, always be honest, and treat people with kindness, because you never know what people are going through in their lives. (Thanks Mum & Dad!)

How do you handle adversity?

I try to compartmentalise whatever it might be, not let it define or derail the bigger picture. There are a lot of people who rely on me in a professional capacity to manage whatever the challenge is that is in front of me.

What are the aspirations for the future of the business?

We aim to exceed €300m in annual mortgage lending within the next three years and, ultimately, build a respected, enduring business that reflects the strength, integrity and reputation of the wider DNG brand.
