Leading law firm, William Fry, today announced a commitment to their international secondment relationship and close links with India’s largest law firm, Amarchand Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co (Amarchand) in New Delhi.
Acknowledging the growth of trade between Ireland and India and opportunities both for William Fry’s Irish clients and in attracting Indian FDI to Ireland, the programme sees senior lawyers from both firms spend periods of time working in India and Ireland respectively.
Richard Breen, partner in William Fry’s Litigation and Dispute Resolution Department has been working with Amarchand in New Delhi for the past three months.
Speaking about his experience to date Breen commented: “India offers a wealth of commercial opportunity for Irish business. In recent years we have seen a number of Irish companies establish operations both in India and throughout Asia, where the opportunities for growth and expansion are significant. I have been acquiring first-hand experience of international arbitration in India and doing business here, as well as building relationships with Indian businesses. The experience provided under this secondment arrangement, at a senior level, is the first of its kind for an Irish law firm. It is a fantastic opportunity to profile William Fry’s experience and to share our capabilities with one of the world’s fastest growing economies, particularly if the incoming BJP government fulfils its election promises.”
Richard Breen is a member of the William Fry Asia Practice Group and of the Irish Exporters Association’s Asia Trade Forum (ATF) which William Fry sponsors. Together with David Carthy, who heads up William Fry’s Asia Practice Group, Richard will accompany an ATF/Ireland India Business Association (IIBA) Irish trade mission to India in September 2014.
Manu Krishan, a principal associate in Amarchand’s Litigation and International Arbitration Department, is due to begin his secondment in William Fry’s Dublin office at the end of June.
