In our Ones to Watch section, we highlight some of the top movers and shakers in Ireland. This week we feature Seapunk.

What is it?

We are Seapunk and we hand harvest wild Irish seaweed to make natural products that provide a delicious form of nutrition and sensual addition to your natural beauty regime for hair and body. Creativity, fun and good times are what power the Seapunk engine.

Who’s behind it?

Marc Torrades is a former restaurateur, horticulturalist and lifelong forager who started the business. His son Tommy is a Marine Scientist, Adventure Traveller and Entrepreneur who is developing and growing the business. Brían Sparks met Tommy at Tangent, Trinity’s Ideas Workspace and joined the team in 2018, bringing his 20 years of innovation and product development experience working in the International Beauty Industry.

How is it funded?

The business was initially funded by Tommy and Marc and is sustained through ongoing product sales. With the support of New Frontiers from Enterprise Ireland and the Tangent Student Accelerator the business growth has accelerated in the past six months.

Future plans?

We believe in growing sustainably while having a positive impact on the environment. Our vision is to revolutionise the way we produce food from our oceans through integrated multitrophic aquaculture systems. In the meantime we will focus on growing our Seapunk Brand by making high quality innovative products that tap into the growing desire for natural, healthy alternatives.
