Ged Nash, Minister Minister of State for Business and Employment, has welcomed the continuing fall in the rate of unemployment.
The unemployment rate for October stood at 9.3%, down from 9.4% in September, according to the most recent Central Statistics Office.
There are now 24,900 more people at work than there was this time last year, with the monthly drop in the number of unemployed standing at 1,900.
Ged Nash, Minister Minister of State for Business and Employment, said: “These are the lowest unemployment figures we have had in more than six years. While I acknowledge that there is much more to be done to meet the Government’s ambitious target of full employment by 2018, we are certainly on the right track.”
“I am particularly pleased to see a significant drop in the number of young people who are unemployed since last month. 1,700 15 to 24 year olds who were unemployed in September have either found work or returned to study or training. Last year, 800 young people left the dole queues during the same period, so we can see that there is a significant acceleration in the opportunities for our youth,” he continued.
