OpenAI has announced the opening of its EU headquarters in Dublin, at the Tropical Fruit Warehouse, with plans to create 250 new jobs over the next two years.
Based in the Docklands, the building currently employs over 100 people. The newly created roles are expected to span workplace, engineering, user operations, HR, finance, GTM (go to market/sales), legal, and corporate security (corpsec).
Taoiseach Micheál Martin and IDA Ireland welcomed the investment.
IDA Ireland CEO, Michael Lohan, said, “I warmly congratulate OpenAI on today’s announcement of 250 new jobs and the next phase of its growth in Ireland. Artificial intelligence is an increasingly important part of IDA Ireland’s strategy as we work to attract the next generation of technology investment and support companies that are shaping the future of business globally.
“Ireland’s deep pool of multi-disciplinary tech talent, strong research ecosystem and AI-native expertise make it an ideal location for OpenAI as it continues to scale its European operations from Dublin.”
Since OpenAI first announced that it would locate its EU HQ in Ireland in 2023, the number of ChatGPT users has grown to more than 1 million locally.
Irish businesses ranging from heritage retailer Lenehans Hardware to global AI orchestration platform Tines use OpenAI technology, whether for coding, developing new products, growing revenue or enhancing customer service.
Niall Gaffney, chief executive of IPUT Real Estate, added, “OpenAI’s announcement today reflects both the quality of the workplace we have developed at the Tropical Fruit Warehouse and Dublin’s continued strength as a centre for global innovation and technology. We look forward to welcoming the OpenAI team to this fantastic contemporary building in the late Autumn.”
The investment will also allow the company to build on its ‘OpenAI for Ireland’ programme, focused on helping young builders, start-ups and SMEs gain skills and experience in AI.

The company’s new roles will be available through the company’s careers portal.
