Fidelity Investments Ireland, the multinational financial services company, runs an education programme called Paying IT Forward. The group continued to foster it throughout 2022, and is our FDI of the Month for January 2023.

Fidelity Investments was founded in 1946 by Edward C. Johnson II as Fidelity Management & Research Co. In 1996, the company established a presence in Dublin, marking its first global location and its beginnings in the Irish market.

The company runs an education-centred programme called Paying IT Forward, which encourages young people to pursue careers in STEM, particularly women and under-represented groups.

“Fidelity is committed to STEAM education, which is embedded in our CSR programme, Fidelity Cares. We are active in primary schools (Junior Achievement Ireland programmes), secondary schools (the Fidelity-sponsored STEM programme, Futurewize) and graduate programmes (the Leap programme), which we believe are creating a slow but steady movement and are all delivered via partnerships by our committed employees,” said Sharon Walsh, Vice-President of Technology Management, in 2018.

The company collaborated with Junior Achievement and Science Foundation Ireland to develop a  STEAM skills programme called Our World, which aims to reach more than 12,000 fifth class students, teachers and parents by 2024. The focus of the programme is on sustainability, problem solving and coding.

Fidelity also hosts the Root2STEM work experience programme, focused on engendering interest in STEM subjects. Girls comprise 66% of this year’s 111 participants.

In 2002, Fidelity’s global technology graduate programme was founded in Galway.

In October 2022, Fidelity Investments Ireland announced a further expansion of its national footprint with a recruitment drive for 300 new fulltime positions for its team in Ireland.

The company employs around 40,000 staff around the world, including 1,100 in Ireland, and administers $7.3 trillion in assets around the globe. It operates in asset management, brokerage, and administrative solutions, serving personal, workplace, intermediary and institutional markets.
