The FDI of the Year award is part of the renowned Business & Finance Awards recognition programme, in association with KPMG.
The award recognises companies that best demonstrate longstanding commitment to Ireland, investment in facilities and R&D, and job creation, as well as business leadership on a global scale.
The Business & Finance Awards
Business & Finance was launched in 1964 as Ireland’s premier business magazine. The Business & Finance Awards programme was established a decade later, in 1974, and has become Ireland’s longest-running and most coveted business awards programme. These prestigious awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of some of our most remarkable business leaders.
FDI of the Year
Since 2015, the FDI of the Year award has recognised companies that best demonstrate longstanding commitment to Ireland, investment in facilities and R&D, and job creation, as well as business leadership on a global scale.
The coveted prize was first awarded to Intel in 2015, with Microsoft taking home a ‘World’s Special Recognition Award ‘ for its continued investment in Ireland.
Pfizer was awarded FDI of The Year at the 2021 Business & Finance Awards. Paul Duffy, Vice President Operations for Pfizer, collected the award presented by Martin Shanahan, CEO of IDA Ireland.
“It’s an incredible recognition of the work that we do”, said Mr. Duffy.
For us to be chosen it’s a privilege and an honour.
Mr. Duffy would go on to say that it felt nice being awarded after what was such a busy year for the company.
“It’s been a busy year for us making the vaccine, it’s very much been head down and get the job done, so to get out and take this recognition on the back of all our colleagues in Ireland and we have brilliant colleagues in Ireland and they’re what make Pfizer what it is”.
The 2021 awards were the first to be hosted in person since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Abbott won the award at the 2022 ceremony, having further cementing their position in the Irish business landscape. Adrian McMorrow collected the award presented by Mary Buckley, Interim CEO, IDA Ireland.
Judges commended their contribution to employment in Ireland along with their long-standing presence here.
“This year, the company began construction of a new base in Kilkenny and made plans to create 1,000 jobs across its bases in Ireland. Abbott made its first investments in Ireland more than 75 years ago and currently employs over 5,000 people.”
