Business & Finance highlights an up-and-coming start-up making waves in its industry. In this article we look at Get the Shifts. Previously dubbed the ‘Tinder for jobs’, Get the Shifts provides on demand temporary hospitality, retail and marketing personnel. They deliver high quality, experienced staff to their clients for shifts, ranging from 1 to 500 staff at a time to some of Ireland’s best known brands. Their service can be accessed through the platform from a mobile or desktop device 24/7 and staff can be supplied with as little as 3 hours’ notice.

What is it?

Get the Shifts is a multi award-winning, innovative, technology-driven staffing solution that is disrupting the recruitment sector to source quality, experienced staff in their area on-demand. They provide clients with high quality staff for irregular shifts, to combat sick days or no shows, and to manage seasonal labour challenges. Historically, temp staffing has been approached in a haphazard manner with agencies, in a lot of instances, sending “a body” to clients.

Traditionally the group’s main markets have been in the hospitality, retail and marketing sectors.

Get the Shifts have created innovative software that allows clients to browse and book workers 24/7, with as little as 3 hours’ notice.

Who’s behind it?

Hannah Wrixon is a serial entrepreneur. Hannah studied HR, Business and Administration and Management in Australia. On her return to Ireland in 2003, Hannah saw that there was a need for quality school age childcare, and she opened Aire Children’s Centre in 2004.

It was during this time that Hannah saw a need for her second start up, Last Minute Minders, which supplied pre-screened childcare professionals to creches, parents and multi nationals wanting to support their employees.

It is this background in hospitality, temporary staffing, software development and start up experience that allows Hannah to bring Get the Shifts to the position it currently enjoys – a fast paced, growing, innovative company that is changing the face of the Irish recruitment sector one shift at a time.

How is it funded?

Get the Shifts has been boot strapped since the start. They have used loans from Bank of Ireland and Micro Finance, and grants from Clare LEO and Intertrade Ireland.

Future plans?

In March 2021 Get the Shifts was acquired by FRS Recruitment. With the support of FRS, the group’s focus now will be to continue the great work that they have done to date, to innovate and develop their software and to bring this product to more industry verticals. They hope to grow the company’s share of the temporary staffing market in Ireland and use the platform to expand into international markets.

Get the Shifts is passionate about software and customer service, so their ambition is to create a world where their clients’ lives are made easier. They are excited about bringing this product to even more users in the next 12 months with the support of FRS.
