Sébastien Conway is the CEO of Ascoria Technologies. The company specialises in building a digital taxation platform aimed at helping governments collect and manage taxes from the digital economy.
What was your first job?
My first job was in finance, working between Europe and emerging markets. It exposed me early on to how governments and major institutions function behind the scenes, and some of the inefficiency that exists simply because the right systems aren’t in place.
What pushed you to pursue a career in this field?
A simple conviction. I’ve always believed that governments can deliver far more for their citizens if they are equipped with the right tools and incentives. Seeing firsthand how much revenue is lost through outdated systems pushed me to focus on building solutions that strengthen sovereignty and create real economic impact.
What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?
Building trusted relationships at the highest levels, across multiple continents, and turning them into tangible national-scale projects. It’s not one deal; it’s the ecosystem and credibility we’ve built, often in very complex environments.
Career-wise, would you do anything differently?
Probably not. Hindsight is a great thing, but every challenge, every difficult partnership, every hard lesson has shaped the way I am today. The setbacks taught me as much, if not more, than the wins.
In one sentence, how would you define success?
Success is the ability to create lasting value while staying true to your principles, even under pressure.
How do you motivate yourself and your staff?
By being transparent about the mission, setting a high bar for performance, and giving people the autonomy and trust they need to excel. I don’t believe in micromanagement – people rise to the level of responsibility you give them.
How do you handle adversity?
Calmly, strategically, and without sentiment. I focus on the facts, isolate the noise, and make decisions that protect the long-term interests of the organisation.
How do you relax?
I disconnect with family and close friends. Exercise and cooking help me clear my head.
What are your aspirations for the future of the business?
To solidify our position as the global reference for sovereign digital infrastructure, to expand across key markets, and to build a group that outlasts its founders and an institution that reshapes how states deliver for their citizens.
