What was your first job?
My first job was a summer gig as a builder’s labourer. No better way to learn that I better double down on my studies!
What pushed you to pursue a career in this field?
From early in my career I had a passion for tech. My first ‘real’ job was with Dell. That opened my eyes to the fabulous opportunities in technology.
What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?
Other than my fantastic family, I think the greatest achievement has been the transformative work we are doing with Viatel Technology Group. Building the wonderful team we have today has been a magnificent achievement. It’s 100% a team achievement rather than personal.
Career wise, would you do anything differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing. I love the ups and downs. Thankfully, more up-to-date.
In one sentence, how would you define success?
For me, success is seeing my teams thrive and achieve their maximum potential. It’s an amazing feeling to watch our teams continue in that rhythm.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Be present. When at work, give 100%. When with family, give them 100%. Being half in on either doesn’t work.
How do you motivate yourself and your staff?
Sales is a constant drive to achieve more. Every quarter is a quest to surpass the last great set of results. I am privileged to work with the best technology sales team in the industry. I learn from them every day. We all love meeting with customers to understand their business challenges. Helping a customer overcome a challenge and watching them thrive is the ultimate motivation.
How do you handle adversity?
Embrace it. No doubt it’s an opportunity to adapt and learn. I am fortunate to actually enjoy change and challenging situations. It allows me to quickly accept and stay focused on the end goal.
How do you relax?
I exercise 3-4 times per week, and I enjoy attending live sporting events: GAA, soccer and rugby.
What are your aspirations for the future of the business?
I 100% believe we will continue to grow our business, both here in Ireland and internationally. We have an exceptional team who deliver exceptional projects. It’s very exciting to think of the things that we will achieve in the years ahead.
