In our Ones to Watch section, we highlight some of the top movers and shakers in Ireland. This week we feature Happy Scribe.

What is it?

A ton of peoples (students, researchers, journalists, media companies, call centres, lawyers, medical sector, etc.) are constantly facing the problem of transcribing audio or video to text. A painful task that is very expensive and takes on average of five hours of human work per hour of audio. Happy Scribe uses state-of-the-art algorithms and other technologies to automate this task and decrease the cost dramatically.

Happy Scribe aims to take care of the transcription path through a fast and seamless process at an affordable price in more than 119 different languages and accents.

With Happy Scribe people can upload audio/video files in any format and get back an automatic transcription within a few minutes. Automated transcripts are not perfect, so we also provide an online editor that synchronises the text with the audio to make proofreading and editing very fast.

Who’s behind it?

The company is led by André Bastié (CEO) and Marc Assens (CTO). While forming Happy Scribe, André was completing a master’s in e-commerce and Marc a bachelor in computer science.

The two were housemates while studying at Dublin City University. Happy Scribe kicked off in May 2017 when André had to transcribe some interviews for a university project.

How is it funded?

We have bootstrapped Happy Scribe since day one. We recently received Competitive Start Fund (CSF) funding from Enterprise Ireland to boost our growth.

Future plans?

This year will be Happy Scribe’s year! Our notebooks are full of ideas and projects that we will be communicating on pretty soon. In a few words, these future plans will make the transcription process even more seamless than it is with our current solution.
