Known for its innovative work in aerosol drug delivery, Aerogen plans to grow its operations significantly in Galway and Shannon over the next decade.
The announcement was made in January to coincide with Enterprise Ireland’s annual report, which revealed record job growth among the companies it supports. Employment among client businesses rose by 6,200 jobs in 2024, reaching over 234,000 people, with the majority of those jobs located outside Dublin.
Aerogen has become Ireland’s largest homegrown medical technology manufacturer. Starting out above a butcher shop in Maigh Cuilinn in 1998, it now employs hundreds of staff across 28 countries, with its devices used to make medication delivery easier for patients.
With this expansion, Aerogen also plans to branch into the biopharmaceutical sector. Enterprise Ireland highlighted the company’s growth as an example of how Irish-owned firms contribute significantly to both local employment and the national economy, generating over €30 billion in annual exports.
Aerogen’s CEO Leo Clancy said: “2024 marks the final year of Enterprise Ireland’s three-year strategy ‘Leading in a Changing World’ and we can confirm that our client companies have overachieved on our key targets to create 45,000 new jobs by 2024 and increase exports to €30 billion.” These results provided a strong platform on which to further expand the country’s enterprise potential in the coming years.
