Ross Murray is CEO of DigitalWell, an international communications provider serving global enterprises, SMEs and public sector organisations.

What was your initial job experience?

My career began with Taurus Communications, a telecoms broker that I set up after college, and predecessor to DigitalWell, back in 2000.

What motivated you to enter this industry?

I entered this industry because I’ve always had a strong desire to become an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur means having the freedom to run my own business and turn my creative ideas into reality quickly. The communications and tech industry, especially in Ireland, has been a perfect fit for my entrepreneurial ambitions. Ireland has become a thriving hub for communications, technology and innovation, making it an ideal place for someone like me. Being part of this dynamic environment not only aligns with my career goals but also allows me to contribute to the growth and development of the Irish communications sector, which is both professionally and personally fulfilling.

What do you consider your most significant accomplishment thus far?

One of my most significant professional accomplishments has been leading our company through a period of exceptional growth and transformation. Over the past few years, we’ve not only expanded our market presence but also successfully navigated the challenges of a rapidly changing industry and through recessions, Brexit and COVID. This journey has included securing substantial investments, forging strategic partnerships, and building a high-performing team. Our ability to adapt and innovate in the face of adversity and our commitment to delivering value to our customers has been a source of great pride for me, and it reflects our company’s resilience and determination.

Looking back on your career, would you make any different choices?

Yes. I would have benefited from the experience of a proper job before setting up Taurus.

In a nutshell, how do you define success?

Success today means enjoying life, balancing a happy family life with fulfilling work.

What’s the most valuable advice you’ve ever received?

Be present: “When driving, drive; when in class, be in class; when training, focus on training.”

How do you inspire yourself and your team?

We believe in creating a work environment that not only encourages ambition and hard work but also emphasises the value of finding joy in what we do. To inspire ourselves and our team, we prioritise the well-being and happiness of every member.

Our approach revolves around cultivating a workplace where individuals are excited to come in every day, motivated by their passion and dedication. In essence, we understand that true inspiration comes from within when you love what you do, and this passion radiates throughout the team, fostering a culture of enthusiasm, creativity, and dedication.

How do you handle challenges and setbacks?

Handling challenges and setbacks is an integral part of leadership, and my approach centres on a belief that there is a solution to every problem. When faced with challenges, my first step is to assess the situation objectively, breaking it down into manageable components. This analytical approach allows us to gain a clearer understanding of the issues at hand and identify potential solutions. Setbacks are not failures but valuable learning experiences. They provide us with insights and knowledge that can be applied. This encourages resilience within our team, where setbacks are seen as opportunities for personal and professional growth. It is important to maintain a positive attitude and a forward-thinking mindset. It’s crucial to inspire and motivate the team to seek improvement and innovative solutions.

How do you unwind and relax?

I find relaxation in traveling, spending quality time with my family, and engaging in sports, both as a player and spectator – especially golf, football & rugby!

What are your business aspirations for the future

My business aspirations for the future are ambitious and multifaceted. First and foremost, I envision our company becoming a globally recognised leader in the field of Customer Experience (CX) technology. We aim to provide cutting-edge solutions that redefine how businesses engage with their customers, setting new industry standards for excellence and innovation. However, our vision extends beyond market leadership. We’re committed to maintaining Ireland as our headquarters, further strengthening the country’s position as a hub for technological innovation and job creation.
