The CMO 100 Index was launched this morning by Business & Finance Media Group, in association with world-class digital marketing agency Wolfgang Digital, in the Stephen’s Green Hibernian Club. The Index highlights the top 100 marketing experts working in Ireland today.
Managing Director of Business & Finance, Tracey Carney, opened the event. “The Business & Finance CMO 100 represents marketers at the top of their game in Ireland,” she said.
Speaking of Wolfgang Digital’s presence at the event, Carney said: “What I love about Wolfgang is that what they deliver is measurable, and if they don’t have a way to measure it they will design one.”
Wolfgang Digital CEO Alan Coleman then began a deep-dive into the group’s KPI report for 2020. He compared the mass migration of people throughout history to our mass migration into a digital world.
“Data is the new oil,” he said as he discussed the seismic change in the commercial viability of data. Up to 10 years ago, the top two companies on the FT Global 500 were oil and gas companies. Now data-gathering companies are the most valuable.
Director of Wolfgang Digital, Brendan Almack, spoke about the difficulties of measuring social on conversions, and recommended measuring social via its impact on other performance channels.
Together the pair discussed leveraging data to maintain an advantage over competitors, the importance of understanding the value of specific digital channels to influence CFOs, the relationship between online and offline store sales – online advertising plays a huge role in the movement of goods offline – and ended with a charge to attendees to “Start owning your own customer data before Jeff Bezos does!”
The entirety of their KPI report is available on their website.
This was followed by a panel discussion hosted by Coleman. Among the participants were Suzanne Quinn (Woodie’s), Kevin Kent (Laya Healthcare), Patrice Lennon (Dalata Hotel Group), Kenny Jacobs (Ryanair), and Louise McKeown Doogan (Magnet Networks).
Among the topics discussed were customer loyalty and retention, ‘brand love’, trust, e-commerce, and apps.
