Joan Mulvihill chaired a panel discussion on marketing and GDPR at the launch of the 2017 Business & Finance CMO 100 listing, in association with Comtrade Digital Services. The event took place in Facebook’s Grand Canal Dock offices, and guests enjoyed wines, beers and canapés while perusing the digital version of the CMO listing on a large touchscreen display unit.

Deanna O’Connor, Group Head of Content at Business & Finance welcomed guests and introduced the theme of the evening’s discussion, ‘Using the Users’, noting that this year The Economist magazine announced personal data is now the most valuable resource in the world, more valuable even than oil.

Dejan Ćušić, Business Director, Ireland & UK, Comtrade Digtial Services, spoke, referencing their recent award of FDI of the Month, and the innovative and exciting role the company plays in enabling digital transformation for businesses.

The panel discussion featured Conor Mullen, Commercial Director, RTÉ, Deirdre Kilroy, Partner & Head of Intellectual Property with Matheson and Mark McEvoy, Head of Data, Dentsu Aegis Network Ireland. The lively discussion, expertly and engagingly led by Joan Mulvihill, Director of the Irish Centre for Cloud Computing & Commerce, ranged through topics including what GDPR means for marketers, issues around audience consent to use of their personal data, the effect of GDPR on programmatic advertising, content creation, and the rise of the micro-influencer.
